Box Grove

Check out all the amazing benefits of living in the Box Grove neighbourhood of Markham.

OVERVIEW

Homes here vary from townhouses to large detached homes. Box Grove has something to offer everyone. There is a residents association, a Neighbourhood Watch programme and planned social events. Commuters in Box Grove who need to get to downtown Toronto usually have around a 10-min drive from the Markham Village GO station or via the 407 from Unionville Go. This makes the total commute time around 28-45mins. Using public transport to get around Markham is slightly less convenient. Although there are York Region bus routes, most people use cars or bicycles to get around the area.

HISTORY

In the early days this community took on the name Sparta. Certainly residents worked very hard and by all accounts they played hard to. The hamlet quickly grew with a schoolhouse, church, general store and even a cheese factory. It also included a hotel and not one but three taverns which earned Sparta a reputation as a popular watering hole and at times a bit of a rough and tumble place that some of the more god fearing nearby residents would make a point of avoiding except to pick up essentials and pass through town.
